GRAVEL ITINERARY
Check out our packed weekend itinerary for your gravel cycling weekend break in Girona.
Friday morning arrivals will get the chance to enjoy a relaxed leg loosener gravel ride to Lake Banyoles to shake out the plane legs and check the bike over or adjust their hire bike. For guests already in Girona having completed the Struggle Girona Road Cycling Training Camp we can head out in the morning for an extended version of the Lake Banyoles ride.
Distance: 55km & 65km
Today is an awesome intro to Girona gravel cycling. We'll enjoy a variety of fast and flat agricultural gravel roads as we head east to the Costa Brava coast. We'll stop for speciality coffee and great food at Rustik cafe. We'll then get an intro to Girona gravel climbs as we make our way through the Montgrí Natural Park before dropping down and dipping our toes in the ocean. It's then a fast and flat ride through traditional Spanish villages along gravel trails. We'll enjoy the gentle climb through the Gavarres Massif Area of Natural Interest before descending back into Girona and flying down the Via Verda cycle way back to town.
Distance: 110km
Today we're heading South to the well-known Costa Brava town of Tossa der Mar. We'll enjoy a warm-up along the Via Verda. It's then a tough climb to reach the old church of Santa Susanna de Caulès perched on the hilltop. We'll descend down to Tossa der Mar for lunch overlooking the ocean. It's then a gradual gravel climb back out of the coast before we have a straight shoot home via fast gravel cycle paths.

SOCIAL & FRIENDLY
We strive to create an inclusive, social gravel weekender in Girona, including a communal breakfast and dinner every day, post-ride drinks and social nights. We understand travelling solo can feel daunting. That's why we work hard to create a friendly atmosphere for social, like-minded cyclists.
ACCOMMODATION
You’ll stay at the Hotel Carlemany in Girona a hub for cyclists in the town. The hotel is ideally located in the centre of Girona so you can explore the great cycling cafes and bike shops that this city has become famous for.
GETTING THERE
Flying to Girona: There are flights to Girona airport (also named Barcelona Girona). Flights are limited at this time of year so we recommend booking early. We offer transfers included in your trip from most flights arriving from UK airports (recommended flights listed in a drop down menu when you book). If you are not travelling from the UK but your flight lands at a similar time we can book you onto the group transfer. For other arrival times we can arrange a private transfer for a small extra fee or you can take advantage of the plethora of large sized and inexpensive taxis right outside the airport. The hotel is just a 15 minute taxi ride away.
Flying to Barcelona: You can also fly to Barcelona and take the 30 minute high-speed train to Girona. The hotel is just a short walk or a minute taxi ride from Girona train station. We do not offer airport transfers from Barcelona but we provide detailed instruction of how to travel from Barcelona to Girona. Please contact us for more info.

Departure day is the advertised last date of your trip. If you would like to arrive and depart on different days this is absolutely fine, however will come with an additional nightly rate at the hotel and private tranfer cost. How fit do I need to be?
How fit do I need to be?
We have groups for varying abilities and welcome riders of different fitness and experience levels. This is a training camp and you don't need to be at your fitness. That said, it is important to have a decent base level of fitness to be able to cope with long rides over consecutive days. We cannot cater for everyone and if you are a beginner cyclists this may not be the trip for you. If you are unsure please don't hesitate to get in touch: hq@ridethestruggle.com.
I've never ridden in a group before. Is that ok?
I've never ridden in a group before. Is that ok?
Sure! If you haven't ridden in a group you'll gain this much-valued skill while joining us in Mallorca. We recommend you begin the week in a slighlty steadier group than you are used to. Once you have the skills nailed down you can move up the groups.
Should I hire a bike or bring my own bike?
Should I hire a bike or bring my own bike?
This is totally up to you. If you prefer a hassle-free trip and aren't used to travelling with your bike then hiring might be better for you. However, if you have a nice bike and feel comfortable riding it, you'll love gliding around the smooth roads on your favourite steed.
What spending money do I need?
What spending money do I need?
Our Girona trip includes breakfast and our Mallorca trip includes breakfast and buffet dinner. You'll need euros for your lunch money each day. We stop at inexpensive cafes, but we ask you to have euros to ease paying the bill.
What is the cancellation process?
What is the cancellation process?
We ask for a £150 deposit to secure your place on the trip. You can cancel your place up to 6 weeks before the trip but your deposit is non-refundable. Your final balance is due 6 weeks before. Once paid, this is non-refundable. As soon as you have booked your trip we recommend you take out travel insurance should you become injured ahead of the trip and can no longer attend.
Do I need Travel Insurance
Do I need Travel Insurance
Yes, it is compulsary to have travel insurance and you must not travel without it. Most travel insurers cover cycling in their standard package at no extra cost. Please ensure you check the policy wording before taking out insurance. We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance as soon as you have booked. This will cover you in case you before injured before the trip and can no longer attend. You also need a European Health Card (EHIC).
