EVENT DETAILS
Date: 18th July 2024 from 11:45am-5pm
Location: Bowcliffe Hall, Bramham, Wetherby, Leeds LS23 6LP
Our Mission:
The Arla Move Stronger Summer Cycle is back for its third year. After the successful inclusion of a hike alongside cycle routes for all abilities last year, this year the event evolves again. We welcome mindfulness coach Amy Polly to lead a 45 minute mindfulness session. In addition, there’s a 1 hour yoga class, bringing a truly holistic approach to our health and well-being event.
We are also proud to extend the event to all Arla colleagues across all our sites, with Bowcliffe Hall featuring as the northern hub for our national health & well-being event.
There’s no cost to you, but please support and donate to our chosen charities Mind & British Heart Foundation via the sign up link.
Bike Routes
Our routes cater for all abilities. We'll have rides of around 15 miles for beginners, 25 miles for intermediate cyclists, 40 miles for experienced riders. We can't wait to reveal our 2024 rides to you very soon...
Hike Route
Last year we had a huge group of walkers all complete the 10km hike route together around the stunning groups of Bramham Park and its surrounding footpaths and bridalways.
Mindfulness Session
Amy Polly, aka the Mindfulness Rebel, is a mindfulness and mental health speaker, advocate and campaigner. Join Amy for a 45 minute Mindfulness and Meditation session, where Amy will introduce you to the benefits of Mindfulness on Mental Health, followed by a Mindfulness session and opportunity to share how you found the experience.
Bike & Hike Guides
We'll ride in different ability groups, accompanied by an expert guide from Struggle Events, who will support us along the way to direct the route and provide advice and support throughout.
Bike Support
We'll be supported by the passionate team at Struggle Events who are experts in supporting cycling events for all abilities.
The Struggle support car will be roving throughout, should you need any assistance while out on your bike. Their expert mechanic will also be roving on the route but will also be at the start to provide pre-ride bike checks.
Cycle-To-Work Scheme
It is also a great reminder to let you know about the Cycle-To-Work scheme that allows you to buy a bike at a discounted rate.
Very simply, Arla buys the bike/accessories and you pay it back through monthly deductions form your salary over between 12 and 24 months (sometimes longer).
These deductions are made from your gross salary, thereby reducing the amount of your taxable income and effectively reducing the cost of the bike to you.
FINISHER KIT
Order your 2025 Struggle finisher jersey to wear with pride.
Must pre-order! Jerseys are not available to purchase at the event.

What support is on the route?
What support is on the route?
Our roving mechanics are on hand to get you back on the route should you have an issue. We do however recommend everyone knows how to repair a puncture and come equipt with the tools and spares to do so. We also have marshals throughout the route, roving medical support and well-stocked feed stops and a broomwagon. Our friendly team is there to ensure you succeed in completing your Struggle challenge.
What is at the feed stops?
What is at the feed stops?
Our feed stops are really well stocked with the best sports nutrition on the market from Maurten. We also have super-taster energy bars from Veloforte (vegan and gluten-free but contains nuts). There's also bananas and other grab-and-go snacks like coconut macaroons, Battenberg and Soreen. Our final feeds always have our locally sourced Lishmans Pork Pies, Maurten caffeine gels and mini cans of Coca Cola for the final push for home.
How fit do I need to be?
How fit do I need to be?
Struggle Dales is achieveable for any ambitious road cyclist. That said, it requires prior training and preparation. With sensible pacing, optimal fuelling, proper preparation and plenty of courage, its a challenging goal worthy of the hard work.
What are the cut off times?
What are the cut off times?
There are cut off times but these are very generous to encourage everyone to make it around the route. We suggest steadier riders sign-on the day before and start as early as possible.
What is at the start/finish?
What is at the start/finish?
There is ample free parking at the start and finish and toilet facilities. There is a coffee van serving up a pre-ride caffeine kick and we have post ride nosh and beers at the finish. There is no running water or showers, so please come with your water bottles pre-filled.
Where can I stay?
Where can I stay?
The start/finish is just a few miles from Harrogate Town Centre, where there is a host of hotels and B&Bs to suit all budgets. I'm afraid there is no camping/campervans allowed to stay overnight at the Army Foundation College.
